Former Irish footballer Andy Boyle is starting a new chapter off the pitch, showing how important it is to prepare for life after sport – a message that strongly reflects what our EDU-DC ambassadors have been sharing.
After ending his professional career due to a knee injury, Boyle already had a plan in place. While still playing, he enrolled in a degree in finance and accounting, and today he works in the financial sector while continuing his education to become a certified broker.
His story highlights the importance of combining sport with education. Despite success on the pitch, Boyle faced the reality of an uncertain sporting career, which motivated him to build skills beyond football – a key principle at the heart of the EDU-DC project.
Like many dual career athletes, Boyle shows that preparing for the future is not a “plan B”, but an essential part of a sustainable sporting journey.
Today, he emphasises how his new career gives him a strong sense of purpose – especially through working with people and helping them make important life decisions.
